Does thhe fact that Ippo's liver blows are more horizontal than vertical mean that he may be less susceptible to counters?

Boxing Prediction Thread [No Results or Spoilers]
Carl "The Cobra" Froch(IBF Super Middleweight Champion) vs Mikkel "The Viking Warrior" Kessler(WBA World Super Middleweight Champion) - Another great matchup on the docket for boxing this weekend. These two have already faced each other in the Super Six boxing tournament a few years back, the fight was easily the best fight of the tournament and one of the better fight of that year. The first fight was held in Kessler's backyard(Denmark) and the outcome could have gone either way, but unsurprisingly Kessler got the nod on the scorecards and won via UD over Froch. After that fight, Kessler bowed out of the Super Six tournament due to an eye injury and Froch went on to establish himself as the number two Super Middleweight in the world behind Andre Ward. Froch's stock has risen a lot recently having looked spectacular in obliterating Lucian Bute to win the IBF title, while Kessler has been pretty much on the comeback trail since his injury without any real notable wins, though he did have a devastating knockout win against Allan Green that was arguably the KO of the year last year. This rematch has been long awaited and this time it will be in Froch's backyard in the UK.
Style-wise, Froch is a somewhat adaptable orthodox boxer-puncher. He doesn't really have great boxing ability in my view beyond a nice jab, but he knows how to execute a gameplan well, can fight inside or outside when needed, mixes up his punches well and throws punches from somewhat odd angles. Generally prefers to play the role of pressure fighter. He is physically strong and reasonably heavy-handed, has very good stamina, carrying his power late into fights, and pretty consistent on workrate. Best punch is his up-jab, which is a very solid, stiff jab. He's not the fastest fighter but uses the ring fairly well. Will get dirty with opponents at times. Defensively, Froch is somewhat poor by nature, he leaves his left arm down constantly to throw his up-jab, and his guard is pretty open in general. However, he has one of the best chins in boxing, he's rarely been dropped in his career and I've never seen him seriously hurt by anything. He also has lots of heart.
Kessler is the more technical boxer of the two fighters and is also a boxer-puncher. He prefers to fight outside and at middle-range. Has a good jab, right straight, and his left hook is good as well. Mixes up his punches to the head and body reasonably well and though also not fast, uses the ring well enough. Probably not as physically strong as Froch, but pretty strong, and I believe he's the better puncher of the two fighters by a small margin in terms of one-punch power. Possesses some decent counterpunching ability. Defensively, he's got a more solid guard than Froch, with a traditional European high guard but is still not great defensively and he doesn't take punches as well as Froch in general though he is fairly tough.
Prediction - Another very good fight for as long as it lasts, but I think Kessler is slightly on the slide at this point in his career, Froch is peaking and the fight is in the UK, giving most of the advantages to Froch. Kessler also hasn't faced a real world level opponent since Froch and was rocked badly in a recent fight against Allan Green(though he came back to win by a vicious stoppage). Kessler is one of the few fighters in the division with the punch to get Froch's respect, and he's the better boxer technically but I think Froch will win by mid-rounds stoppage in a competitive fight. On a side-note, if the fight goes to the cards and is close, Froch will get the nod.

Do you guys think Ippo and Itagaki will ever fight
I think will eventually happen but I see itagaki becoming evil or getting overly obsessed with beating ippo....I honestly think itagaki will challenge sendo before ippo

Do you guys think Ippo and Itagaki will ever fight
I also wanted to see them fight, but as af right now its pretty far from happening. It would be interesting to see how it changes their relationship and the fight would have been good.

It was a bit silly when they asked EA to get on the stage. Just the guys you want endorsing your console.. Other than that, there's not really too much to say. It was just the reveal, not the whole deal. They gave us quite a few of the important facts though. The specs are almost identical to PS4, so that is unlikely to be the deciding factor when choosing your console. The gamepad looks as good as ever. The name is terrible. Kinect is meh, probably quite useful if you're into all that voice commanding. Interesting to see how the more precise movement reading can be implemented outside of gaming. The UI looks great. Switching between modes looks easy, although I personally wouldn't want to use voice commands. The game reveals were underwhelming, though I was really excited when they announced the new Remedy IP. Showing off the graphics is probably a great idea with the casuals in mind, but for a PC-gamer it's just a bit pointless, because I know the PC has been capable of such graphics for years, and in truth even some of the newer X360 and PS3 games have gotten quite close. Saying MW3 had state of the art graphics is laughable. Halo TV-series, oh come on. How can you use that to sell a console? I wasn't really listening when the sports games were discussed, so I'm not exactly sure what's going to be exclusive about them. If Microsoft had managed to get EA on their side, with all the sports games as exclusives, that'd be MASSIVE, but that can't be right.. right? New COD's timed exclusive DLC is also a ridiculous thing to advertise at this point, and I especially liked the applause that announcement got.
In truth, the console doesn't look bad at all. It is quite clever that one console can do absolutely everything you need it to do (though how the hell do you surf the net with it? voice commands? :D). It's just the games that I'm interested in. 15 exclusives first year sounds like a great number, but it remains to be seen how good or bad they'll turn out. Since we know absolutely nothing about PS4's exclusives it's a bit early to say which has the advantage. I won't pay any attention to the rumours flying around yet, I'll just wait for E3 when they'll hopefully reveal everything. I doubt PS4 will have all that technology, but if that means lower price, then I'm all for it. Price and games, E3 better answer these.

What bothers me is that Microsoft keeps integrating windows 8 and social into absolutely everything, and mostly everything has backfired. They released new tablet PC's with their own hybrid android/w8 OS, which failed so hard that the developers have discontinued the lines, and they've received so many complaints to the W8 os that they are going to put in stuff they removed earlier, like the start button.
Now they are going to integrate W8 into xbox one, along with all your stupid social networking apps/tiles/whatever. Microsoft are jumping on the social media wave and riding it even higher with xbox one, and they haven't done it right even ONCE yet. It's so transparent and tragic.
It's supposed to be a gaming console, not Apple TV.

g21 already knows my thoughts from the Facebooks, but basically I'm okay with it. I'll be picking up both systems eventually, and I've sided more with the 360 this generation due to stronger online, a sturdier controller, and having the games I play with friends. My PS3 is basically just a streambox/Blu-ray player that I occasionally play games on, and both consoles have near-identical libraries, which will probably be the case this generation too.
No, they didn't show any games--we'll get that soon enough. I wanted to see the PS4's hardware, but I didn't get that yet--we'll get that soon enough too. My only real concern is the whole "you can't let friends borrow games" thing. I always think gamers are fucking cheapskates who never wanna pay for their goddamn hobby, but this is taking it kinda far.

This summary was enough for me:
"That was, without a doubt, the most flaccid, aggressively disappointing console reveal I have ever seen. Wired is reporting that the system uses a cd-key account system that blocks used games, the name is TERRIBLE, kinect for everyone! And they didn't show any fucking games. Wow. WOW."

It was almost that bad after the first/second round, scarily enough. I don't think that Lebedev's heart can be called into question, and this was an awesome, brutal fight.

Round 1018 Raw Discussion
Since Aoki already said he will be sparring with Itagaki as his opponent is a fighter-type, and with Ippo even asking how Imai's been doing recently and Itagaki's watched a few of his recent fights, it's a safe bet to say that it's confirmed to be Imai. It's just Itagaki not paying attention and doesn't care who he fights that's why he didn't realize.
About Itagaki's comment on Imai's recent fights (from chapter 1014), he said that Imai's was being hit easily, and not sure what's going on with him, as his defense was rated highly during his amateur era.
Seems like Imai's new strategy against Itagaki is to pull an Ippo, tank Itagaki's punches until his hands falls off.
I also vaguely remember Imai's target became Itagaki after their rookie fight, and not on Ippo already (well, ultimately I guess it's still Ippo)

Just came back from watching this. It was a pretty stupid movie. Tony Stark being a huge vagina after the Avengers would have made for a nice story arc, but the president got kidnapped so that was more important.
The question is are you a bad enough dude to rescue the president?
It was an ok action film in my opinon but not what I expected. The fragility of the armor(s) and the enforced stupidity (why not use your 20+ armors to murder those helicopters? And if you are scard why were a malfunctioning prototype!) really bothered me in the end. And as others said there are enough plot strings that are kinda just dropped. Also it#S stupid how the splinter can be taken out without trouble in the end when it was said to be impossible in the first two movies...

Given that I like Itagaki as a character but hate his fights, this lack of build up to his fight is very disconcerting.
This leads me to believe that Ita might lose. Of course, I've thought that for nearly every Ita fight, but this lack of buildup could be a "setup" for an Ita loss. Plus, with Mori's writing, we have PLENTY of possibilities for Ita's opponent's backstory to materialize and even take too long...
Boggyb wrote:I'd like to hear what Imai thinks about fighting someone other than Ippo for the Japanese title.
While Imai is surely "fantasizing" about Ippo, I still think he'd rather fight Ita and avenge his one loss. If he can avange his loss AND get the J Featherweight title, that sure seems like more than enough motivation.
Boggyb wrote:We also haven't heard jack shit about what Aokimura are doing ...
Kim is still the "best" sparring partner, Jack of All Trades, Master of None. Aoki is still "Curly" (the brunt of all jokes). Mori continues to use these guys as plot devices with no concern to their storylines at all. Really, has it ever been any different? I think Shinoda mentioning retirement was a red herring, at least while Ita is still around...

Ah yeah, seen more up close it does look like fully 3d rendered models.
But then why the non animation ? Isn't the whole point of 3d models smoother animation ? Why would you do that if you're gonna do the animation super stiff like before ?
Bleh. I prefer 2d sprites for 2d fighters anyway. It's much more satisfying graphically.
Time and money, most likely. It's probably easier and faster to use polygynal models than have to draw each frame by hand, and it also gives them more flexibility in terms of doing stuff with them. Making the 2D sprites is the reason KOFXII was such a half-assed mess--they had to put out SOMETHING to recoup the investment in overhauling the visuals.
I, for one, don't have a problem with it if it'll look this good. I already liked how they did it in MvC3, and this looks a lot better than that.

Thing is, Alfredo having arrived in Japan, the start of the event is probably like 2/3 chapters away. I don't see what they'd be doing with Itagaki in that time. Maybe focus on his weight management since it was mentionned in this chapter apparently ?

Round 1018 Raw Discussion
well, remember ippo was given the chance to fight for the interim opbf title but turned that down and that really hurt him in the long run. but i think imai feels he has something to prove and naturally wants to take the fight. i am sure in future chapters, they will elaborate on itagaki's situation. for now, the focus is naturally on ippo and alfredo which i do understand. alfredo is a new character while itagaki and imai's relationship is something that is established and we all know about. other than that, i think i look forward to hopefully a good fight with ippo and alfredo.
